Skyss app
The Skyss app has everything you need to travel by public transport in Vestland, from journey planning to buying tickets.
The Skyss app was launched on 9 March. Here you can find more information about what’s new.
When will the new app be available and what will happen with the current Skyss apps, Skyss Reise and Skyss Billett?
The new Skyss app will be gradually available from 9 March 2026. The update will be rolled out step by step, which means that not everyone will receive it at the same time.
If you have an iPhone and the Skyss Travel app with automatic updates enabled, it will be automatically updated to the new Skyss app in the period from 9 March and for about two weeks afterwards. After 9 March, you can also update the app yourself in the App Store. If you do not already have the Skyss Travel app, you can download the new Skyss app from the App Store from 9 March.
If you have an Android phone and the Skyss Travel app with automatic updates enabled, it will be automatically updated to the new Skyss app in the period from 9 March and for about two weeks afterwards. After two weeks, you can update the app yourself in Google Play. If you do not already have the Skyss Travel app, you can download the new Skyss app from Google Play from 23 March.
The Skyss Ticket and Skyss On-demand apps will continue to operate as before for the time being.
If you have a Huawei phone, you cannot use the new Skyss app. For now, you can continue to use the Skyss Travel and Skyss Ticket apps as before.
With the app you can plan journeys, see where your bus is and get information about delays and changes. You can also buy tickets, send tickets to others and save your favourite journeys.

What should I do the first time I open the Skyss app?
We recommend creating a profile the first time you open the app. You can then use the journey planner and buy tickets.
- Once you have a profile, you will get
- an overview of your tickets and previous purchases in the new Skyss app
- the option to add favourites, such as journeys or stops you use frequently
- the option to save journeys you plan to take in the future
If you buy a new phone, you can simply log in again without losing any of the information saved in your profile.
If you buy a ticket without creating a profile, you can create one later. The ticket you purchased will then be linked to your profile.
If you have been using the app for a while without a profile, you can create one by going to the “Profile” tab. There you will find the button to register at the top and bottom of the page.
Plan your journey
Find out how you can travel
You can search for a journey in several ways.
- Enter the name of a stop or place in «From» and «To». You will then see suggestions for how you can travel.
- Tap «Departures» and enter the stop you want to see departures from.
- You can also select a stop on the map to see the next departures.
Choose which modes of transport to show
After searching for a journey, you can choose which modes of transport you want to see departures for. You can select bus, light rail, train, boat, bicycle, airport bus and Skyss Book-a-Ride.
See where buses, boats and ferries are in real time
Are you at the stop wondering if the bus is approaching or running late? In the app, you can open the departure you plan to take and see on the map where the bus is right now. The app also counts down and shows when the bus is expected to leave the stop.
You currently get real-time information for buses in Hordaland and Nordfjord, as well as boats and ferries across Vestland. During 2026, this will also be available for buses in Sunnfjord and Sogn. Over time, you will also be able to follow the light rail in real time.
PS: You don’t need to refresh the real-time information yourself. The app updates it automatically almost continuously.
Favourites - save journeys you take often
Do you often travel from the same stops or on the same routes? Save them as favourites so you don’t have to search for them every time.
You can easily save favourites by tapping «Manage favourites» under the «Travel» tab. Your favourites can be found under the «Travel» tab and in «Profile».
Save a specific journey
The function for saving a journey is useful when you want to remember a specific departure, for example if you are planning a longer trip later in the week. To save a journey, you need to create a profile.
Search for the journey, select the departure, scroll down and tap «Save journey». You can find your saved journey under «Travel» and «Profile».
You can have two saved journeys at the same time. Saved journeys are automatically removed within one hour after the departure time has passed.
Get an overview of connections
On some journeys you need to change buses along the way. When there is a connection between two departures, it means the buses wait for each other. When you open a journey suggestion, connections are marked with a smiley between the departures and the word «Planned transfer».
Adjust walking speed
The app uses your walking speed to estimate how long it will take you to walk to the nearest stop. Under «Profile» and «Settings» you can adjust your pace so the app shows the correct times and you don’t have to rush to the stop.
Find and buy tickets
How to buy tickets in the app
You can buy all types of single tickets and period tickets in the app, as well as return tickets for boats and the 30-day youth ticket.
You can buy tickets in several ways:
- You can tap the «Ticket» tab and select «Buy ticket». Here you choose the ticket type, ticket category, and where you want to travel from and to.
- You can tap the «Ticket» tab and select a ticket under «Quick purchase». This is a ticket type you have bought before.
- You can buy a ticket through the journey planner. Tap the «Travel» tab and choose where you want to travel from and to. When you select a journey, the ticket you need will appear at the top. Tap «Buy ticket».
You can buy tickets for most journeys in Vestland in the Skyss app, but some routes have their own prices and tickets. The app will tell you where to buy tickets for these journeys.
Note: Combination tickets for bus and boat are only available in the online shop.
Buy tickets for others
You can buy tickets for other people. Under the «Tickets» tab, select «Buy ticket» and then «Ticket for someone else». Tap «Share ticket» and send the ticket via SMS, email or social media. The recipient will receive a ticket code and must have the Skyss app to collect the ticket. The ticket must be collected within 20 days. If not, the amount will be refunded to you.
If someone has bought a ticket for you, you will receive a link with a ticket code. Tap the link to open the Skyss app, then enter the ticket code under the «Profile» tab and «Collect ticket». After that, you can choose the start time for the ticket.
Buy a ticket for a journey later
In the app, you can buy a ticket in advance for a journey you plan to take later. After selecting a ticket, the app will suggest that the ticket starts immediately. By tapping the «Starts now» button, you can change the start time. Choose the date and time when the ticket should become valid. When the selected time arrives, the ticket will automatically become valid. You do not need to activate it yourself.
If you are no longer travelling at the selected time, you can change when the ticket should become valid. You can move the ticket up to 21 days ahead. If you still won’t use the ticket then, you can move it one final time.
Subscribe to a season ticket
You can subscribe to a 30-day season ticket in the app. Subscriptions are available for adults, students, seniors and military personnel. It is also possible to subscribe to the 30-day youth ticket.
When you start a subscription, your ticket is automatically renewed, so you don’t have to remember to buy a new ticket when the old one expires. To start a subscription, open the season ticket you have purchased in the app. Under the ticket details you will find the option «Start subscription».
Keep track of your tickets
When you have a profile in the app, you can easily see valid and expired tickets. Under «Tickets» you will find valid tickets and tickets that start at a later time.
By tapping the three dots in the top right corner, you will also get a full overview of expired tickets and receipts.
How to pay in the app
You can pay for tickets in the app in the following ways:
- Vipps
- Bank card (Visa/Mastercard)
- Apple Pay (iOS)
In the app, you must choose one of these as your default payment method. This makes it easier the next time you buy a ticket.
Go to «Profile» and «Payment methods» to change how you pay for your tickets.
Tip: Remember that you can always change the payment method when buying a ticket.
Vipps
If Vipps is set as your default payment method, the Vipps app will open when you pay. You will be asked to log in to Vipps in the usual way.
Apple Pay (iOS)
To pay with Apple Pay, you must have an iPhone. Go to «Profile» and «Payment methods» and select Apple Pay.
Get a travel discount when buying single tickets in the app
You automatically receive a discount when you buy an adult single ticket in the app. The travel discount is suitable if you do not travel enough for a season ticket to be worthwhile, or if you are unsure how much you will travel over the next 30 days. The travel discount applies to single tickets for bus, light rail and selected boat services.
Good to know when travelling with the app
Boarding
All passengers must have a valid ticket. If you have purchased a discounted ticket, you must also be able to show proof of your entitlement to the discount.
When travelling within the Bergen area (zone A)
Within the Bergen area, you do not need to present your ticket, and you can board the bus from both the front and the back. On the Bergen Light Rail, you cannot show your ticket to the driver, but you must present it during ticket inspection. If you are travelling on a bus or boat leaving the Bergen area, you must present your ticket when boarding.
When travelling outside the Bergen area
Outside the Bergen area, you must always present your ticket when boarding, both on buses and boats.
If you are travelling by bus outside the Bergen area and have a pram, luggage, a bicycle or for other reasons need to use the back door, you must go to the driver afterwards to show your ticket. For passengers with wheelchairs, walkers, or others who need it, the driver will come to the back of the bus to check your ticket.
Regardless of where you travel in Vestland, drivers, boat crew, and inspectors can request to see your ticket at any time.
Train, express coaches and express boat
When travelling with Skyss tickets on trains, express buses, or express boats, specific rules apply.
Remember to have enough battery and access to mobile data
You must have enough battery and internet access on your phone for the entire journey so you can show a valid ticket during an inspection.
If you do not have network coverage, you will not be able to buy a ticket, and you will also not be able to show a valid ticket during an inspection. In such cases, you must buy a ticket in other ways.
Park for free in the Bergen area
If you have a valid 7-, 30- or 180-day ticket for zone A, you can park for free at several locations in the Bergen area.
In addition to a valid ticket, you must register your car in the Skyss app.
How to do it:
- Buy a season ticket in the app. The ticket must be a 7-, 30- or 180-day ticket for adult, senior, student or military that is valid for zone A.
- In the Skyss app, go to «Profile», select «Park and Ride» and «Add vehicle». Enter the registration number. You can register two cars, but only one car can be parked at a time.
