There are various ways to plan a journey.

• You can enter the name of a stop or location in the ‘From’ and ‘To’ fields and see suggested routes.
• You can tap ‘View departures’ and enter your desired stop.
• You can tap a stop on the map.

The new Skyss app will be available from 9 March 2026.

• If you have the Skyss Reise app, it will be automatically updated to the Skyss app at some point. After 9 March, you can also change it manually.
• If you have not previously had the Skyss Reise app, you can download the new Skyss app after After 9 March. The Skyss Billett app will remain unchanged for the time being.

There are several ways to buy tickets:

1. Tap the ‘Tickets’ tab and select ‘Buy ticket’. Then choose the ticket type, category and the start and destination points of your journey.
2. Tap the ‘Tickets’ tab and select a ticket under ‘Quick purchase’. This is for a ticket type you have bought before.
3. You can buy a ticket via the journey planner. Tap the ‘Planner’ tab and select the start and destination points of your journey. The recommended ticket then appears at the top of the screen. Tap ‘Buy ticket’.

New features

You’ll notice that the Skyss app works slightly differently from the Skyss Reise and Skyss Billett apps. It also has several new features, enabling you to

• buy tickets and send them to anyone who has downloaded the app
• buy tickets in advance
• change the start time of tickets purchased in advance
• buy a ticket for the route you searched for in the journey planner
• save journeys you plan to take in the future
• subscribe to a 30-day season ticket or a 30-day youth ticket
• see your bus in real time on the map
• choose between a light and dark background
• view zone maps for e-scooters and locate city bikes more easily on the map (prices shown in the app)
• apply more filters when using the journey planner
• book and pay for journeys on routes that need to be booked in advance
• When buying tickets, you will have the option to make a ‘quick purchase’, which lets you buy tickets you’ve purchased before.

What features will be added later?

• A school ticket function will be added at a later date. Until then, school pupils must continue to buy their tickets in the Skyss Billett app, but can use the new Skyss app for journey planning.

Features being discontinued

• Mobile account will be discontinued.
• When I buy a ticket in the Skyss Billett app, a two-minute countdown appears before the ticket becomes valid. Why don’t I get this countdown in the new app?
  When you buy a ticket in the new Skyss app, it is valid immediately. You can also choose for the ticket to start at a specific time in the future. Remember that your ticket must be valid when you board.

In the Skyss app, it is easy to buy a ticket for your journey.

Search for and select the journey you are going to take. The app tells you which ticket you need, and you can click “Buy ticket” and purchase the ticket straight away. The ticket only becomes valid when your journey begins. If you need to travel earlier or later than planned, you can open the ticket and change the time from which the ticket is valid.

If there is a journey for which Skyss does not sell tickets, the app will tell you where you can buy a ticket.

Are you standing at the stop wondering whether the bus is approaching or if it is delayed? In the app, you can open the departure you are taking and see on the map where the bus is right now. The app also counts down and shows when the bus is expected to depart from the stop.

You currently receive real-time information for buses in Hordaland and Nordfjord, as well as for boats and ferries throughout Vestland. During 2026, this will also be available for buses in Sunnfjord and Sogn. Over time, you will also be able to follow the light rail in real time.

PS: You do not need to refresh the real-time information yourself – the app updates it automatically almost continuously.

In the Skyss app, you can buy tickets for others. Under the “Tickets” tab, select “Buy ticket” and then “Ticket for others”. Tap “Share ticket” and send the ticket via SMS, email, or social media. The recipient receives a code and must have the Skyss app to collect the ticket. The ticket must be collected within 20 days; otherwise, the amount will be refunded.

If someone has bought a ticket for you, you will receive a link with a ticket code. Click the link and the Skyss app will open, allowing you to enter the ticket code under the “Profile” tab and “Collect ticket”. You can then choose the start time for the ticket.

You do not need to have a profile to send or receive tickets.

You can subscribe to a 30-day youth ticket and 30-day tickets for adults, students, senior citizens, and military personnel. In the ticket details for the period ticket you have purchased, you will find the option “Start subscription”.

This means you do not need to remember to buy a new ticket when the 30-day period expires. Your period ticket will be renewed automatically.
