Getting started with the new app
What can I use the Skyss app for?
You can plan journeys, view departures in real time, save favourite journeys, receive information about delays and changes, buy tickets, send tickets to others, and more.
Who is the app for?
Anyone who uses public transport in the county of Vestland.
How do I download the new app?
You can find the new Skyss app in the App Store and on Google Play from 9 March. Search for ‘Skyss’. If you already have the Skyss Reise app, it will be automatically updated to the new app.
Is the app free?
Yes, the app is free to download on both iOS and Android.
What should I do the first time I open the Skyss app?
We recommend creating a profile the first time you open the app. You can then use the journey planner and buy tickets.
- Once you have a profile, you will get
- an overview of your tickets and previous purchases in the new Skyss app
- the option to add favourites, such as journeys or stops you use frequently
- the option to save journeys you plan to take in the future
If you buy a new phone, you can simply log in again without losing any of the information saved in your profile.
When will the new app be available and what will happen with the current Skyss apps, Skyss Reise and Skyss Billett?
The new Skyss app will be available from 9 March 2026.
- If you have the Skyss Reise app, it will be automatically updated to the Skyss app at some point. After 9 March, you can also change it manually.
- If you have not previously had the Skyss Reise app, you can download the new Skyss app after After 9 March. The Skyss Billett app will remain unchanged for the time being.
Which devices support the app?
All smartphones and tablets running iOS or Android. You need iOS 16.4 or Android 6.0.

New features
You’ll notice that the Skyss app works slightly differently from the Skyss Reise and Skyss Billett apps. It also has several new features, enabling you to
- buy tickets and send them to anyone who has downloaded the app
- buy tickets in advance
- change the start time of tickets purchased in advance
- buy a ticket for the route you searched for in the journey planner
- save journeys you plan to take in the future
- subscribe to a 30-day season ticket or a 30-day youth ticket
- see your bus in real time on the map
- choose between a light and dark background
- view zone maps for e-scooters and locate city bikes more easily on the map (prices shown in the app)
- apply more filters when using the journey planner
- book and pay for journeys on routes that need to be booked in advance
- When buying tickets, you will have the option to make a ‘quick purchase’, which lets you buy tickets you’ve purchased before.
What features will be added later?
- A school ticket function will be added at a later date. Until then, school pupils must continue to buy their tickets in the Skyss Billett app, but can use the new Skyss app for journey planning.
Features being discontinued
- Mobile account will be discontinued.
- When I buy a ticket in the Skyss Billett app, a two-minute countdown appears before the ticket becomes valid. Why don’t I get this countdown in the new app?
When you buy a ticket in the new Skyss app, it is valid immediately. You can also choose for the ticket to start at a specific time in the future. Remember that your ticket must be valid when you board.
When I buy a ticket in the Skyss Billett app, a two-minute countdown appears before the ticket starts. Why doesn’t this countdown appear in the new app?
When you buy a ticket in the new Skyss app, the ticket becomes valid immediately. You can also choose to have the ticket start at a specific time in the future. At any time, you can open the ticket and “start it now”, for example if you decide to take an earlier bus than planned. Remember that your ticket must be active when you board.
Transition from Skyss Billett and Skyss Reise
What happens to tickets I already have in the Skyss Billett app?
You can continue to use tickets you have in the Skyss Billett app, as long as they are valid. When you need to buy a new ticket, you can switch to the new Skyss app.
Can I transfer tickets from Skyss Billett to the new app?
No, it is not possible to transfer tickets from Skyss Billett to the new Skyss app. You can continue to use tickets you have in Skyss Billett as long as they are valid. When you need to buy a new ticket, you can switch to the new Skyss app.
Can I pause season tickets so that I can transfer them?
No, season tickets can’t be paused. You can continue to use your season ticket until it expires.
What happens to the balance in my mobile account?
If you have remaining funds in your mobile account, use the remaining balance in appen Skyss Billett. If you are unable to use it, you can request a refund.
What happens to any travel discounts I have accumulated in Skyss Billett?
When you start using the new Skyss app, the travel discounts will begin again from scratch. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to transfer discounts from the old app as our systems can’t do this securely or accurately. If you have a large amount of travel discount, you may want to consider switching to the new Skyss app after a period when you have travelled less by public transport.
What happens to park-and-ride parking and vehicle registration numbers stored in the old app?
When you start using the new Skyss app, you will need to re-enter your vehicle registration number. The system for free parking for season ticket holders remains the same – it is only the vehicle registration number that needs to be re-entered. Enter your vehicle registration number under Profile and Parking.
Do I need a profile to use the park-and-ride feature?
Yes, because you need to register your vehicle registration number in your profile.
When will the old apps stop working?
Skyss Reise will gradually be replaced with the new Skyss app during the first two weeks after launch. When you open the Skyss Reise app after this, it will be automatically updated to the new app. Skyss Billett will continue to work as before for a while.
Do I need to delete the old apps myself?
You don’t need to delete Skyss Reise as it will be automatically updated to the new Skyss app. You will need to delete the Skyss Billett app manually once any season tickets have expired and any remaining balance in your mobile account has been used or refunded.
Can I continue to use the old apps after the new Skyss app is launched?
You can continue to use Skyss Billett for some time. Over time, certain ticket types will no longer be available in the old app, but all tickets you purchase in Skyss Billett can be used while they are valid. Skyss Reise will be automatically updated to the new Skyss app. At some point in 2026, the Skyss Bestilling app will also be discontinued, because the new Skyss app allows you to book journeys for routes that need to be booked in advance.
What do I do if I get a new phone?
If you have created a user profile in the new Skyss app, you can easily switch phones and log in. You will then be able to transfer active tickets, favourites and other data stored in your profile.
If you get a new phone number, you will need to create a new profile.
If you don’t have a profile, you can transfer tickets from the old phone to the new one using the ticket ID.
What happens if I have more than one phone?
Your user profile is linked to your phone number. You can log in from other devices, but this has to be verified with a one-time code sent to the phone linked to your profile. You can transfer active season tickets a maximum of twice.
Can I use shortcuts without opening the app?
Yes, by pressing and holding the app icon, you can see the available options.
Can I create a widget on my home screen?
Yes, via the app icon. Press and hold the app icon to see the available options. You can then access some Skyss app functions directly on your screen without opening the app.
Tickets – buying, using and sending to someone else
How do I buy a ticket in the new app?
There are several ways to buy tickets:
- Tap the ‘Tickets’ tab and select ‘Buy ticket’. Then choose the ticket type, category and the start and destination points of your journey.
- Tap the ‘Tickets’ tab and select a ticket under ‘Quick purchase’. This is for a ticket type you have bought before.
- You can buy a ticket via the journey planner. Tap the ‘Planner’ tab and select the start and destination points of your journey. The recommended ticket then appears at the top of the screen. Tap ‘Buy ticket’.
What types of tickets are available in the app?
You can buy all tickets in the app: single tickets, 24-hour tickets, 7-day tickets, 30-day tickets, 180-day tickets, tickets for different categories and transport modes, as well as 30-day youth tickets. You can also buy return tickets for passenger ferries.
How do I show my ticket to an inspector?
Tap the ticket under the ‘Tickets’ tab, then select ‘Inspection’.
When does the ticket start?
The ticket starts automatically when you purchase it in the app, unless you choose a later start time.
Can I buy tickets in advance?
Yes, you can purchase tickets up to 3 weeks in advance.
Can I transfer a ticket to a new phone?
Yes, active tickets can be transferred a maximum of twice. Log in to the app on your new phone and follow the instructions there. You must have a profile to do this.
Can I subscribe to season tickets?
Yes, you can subscribe to the 30-day ticket and the 30-day youth ticket. In the ticket details, select ‘Start subscription’.
Can I change the start time of my ticket?
Yes, you can reschedule a ticket up to 21 days in advance. If you still can’t use it, you can reschedule it a final time, up to a further 21 days.
Can I buy a ticket on board?
Yes, you can still buy tickets on board, just like before.
Can I buy a ticket without internet access (offline)?
No, tickets can’t be purchased offline.
I buy the same ticket every time and find it takes too many steps. Is there an easier way to do this?
The last tickets you bought, or tickets you buy frequently, will appear under ‘Quick purchase’ in the ‘Tickets’ tab. Tap ‘Buy’ to go straight to payment. You can also change the start time here.
Can I share my ticket with someone else?
You can’t share your ticket, but you can buy a ticket for someone else. Under the ‘Tickets’ tab, select ‘Buy ticket’, then ‘Ticket for others’. Tap ‘Send ticket’ and send it via text, email or another method. The recipient must have the Skyss app.
If someone buys a ticket for you, you will receive a link with a ticket code. Tap the link to open the Skyss app, then enter the ticket code under ‘Profile’ - ‘Claim ticket’. You can then choose the ticket’s start time.
Does the recipient of the ticket I bought need a profile in the app?
- No, they only need the app. They retrieve the ticket via ‘Claim ticket’ under the ‘Profile’ tab.
I have sent a ticket to someone else. How long is it available for the recipient?
- Up to 20 days. If the ticket has not been collected, you will receive a refund.
How do I buy a ticket for someone else?
Under the ‘Tickets’ tab, select ‘Buy ticket’, then ‘Ticket for others’.
How do I enter a ticket code?
If someone has bought a ticket for you, you will receive a ticket code. Tap the ‘Profile’ tab, select ‘Claim ticket’, and enter the code. You can then choose the ticket’s start time.
I have a ticket that I won’t use. How do I cancel it?
If you have purchased a ticket in advance, you can change its start time or cancel it before it is activated. Tap the ‘Tickets’ tab, select the ticket, then choose ‘Change start time’ or ‘Cancel ticket’.
Payment and discounts
Will tickets, prices or discounts change?
No, all ticket types, prices and discounts will remain the same, but remember that travel discounts will start from scratch in the new app.
What payment methods can I use?
You can pay with Visa, Mastercard, Vipps og Apple Pay.
What will happen to the mobile account?
The new Skyss app does not have the mobile account feature. When the Skyss Billett app is discontinued, that will be the end of the mobile account. If you have a remaining balance in your mobile account, you can request a refund. Remember that you can continue using the Skyss Billett app to use your mobile account balance until it stop working.
Can my employees charge ticket purchases to the company account in the new app?
This feature is not ready yet, but will be added later. Employees who currently charge tickets to the company account must continue using the Skyss Billett app for the time being.
Journey planner, real-time information and zones
Where do I find the journey planner?
The journey planner is located under the ‘Travel’ tab.
How does journey planner work in the new app?
There are various ways to plan a journey.
- You can enter the name of a stop or location in the ‘From’ and ‘To’ fields and see suggested routes.
- You can tap ‘View departures’ and enter your desired stop.
- You can tap a stop on the map.
Can I filter by mode of transport?
Yes, you can choose bus, light rail, train, passenger ferry, city bike or airport bus.
Does the app know how long it takes me to walk to the stop?
Yes, it shows walking time based on your location.
Does the app automatically find the nearest stop?
Yes, the map shows the nearest stop and walking time if location services are enabled.
Can I see city bikes and e-scooters on the map?
Yes, if you turn on this feature in the map.
Does the app indicate if a route has to be booked in advance?
Yes, these routes are marked as requiring advance booking, and you can now book them directly in the Skyss app. You no longer need the Skyss Bestilling app.
Can I track my bus in real time?
Yes, you can track buses in real time on the map. There are some areas in Vestland where this will not apply, but these will be added in due course.
What do the green and yellow circles mean when I search for a stop?
The coloured circles indicate how closely the bus is running to schedule. Green means the bus is 1–3 minutes behind schedule, and yellow means it is running more than 3 minutes late. We will provide updates in the event of major delays or traffic incidents.

How do I see connections?
Connections appear in the journey planner as ‘Planned transfer’. They are presented slightly differently from the old app, but buses will still wait for each other.
Does the app also apply to trains?
Yes, you can also search for train journeys in the new Skyss app. You can purchase selected train tickets on certain routes.
Can I save journeys I use frequently?
Yes, you can save specific stops or and transport lines as favourites.
What is the difference between a saved journey and a favourite?
A saved journey is a specific trip on a particular date and time. It disappears within one hour after the scheduled time of the journey has passed. A favourite can be a stop or a line that you have marked with the star icon. This allows you to see all departures from that stop. Both saved journeys and favourites are shown under the “Travel” tab. You can also find them under the “Profile” tab.
How do I find out which zone I am travelling in?
You can view zones on the map, where you can zoom out to see which zone your journey is in. You can also search for a stop or location under the ‘Tickets’ tab, which will show your current or destination zone.
How does the journey planner work without internet access (offline)?
You need to be connected to the internet (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to plan journeys and display your ticket. The app does not work offline.
Will I get notifications about route disruptions?
You will not receive push notifications, but all delays, changes and cancelled departures are shown in the journey planner if they affect your journey.
Profile, log in and data protection
Do I need a profile, or can I use the app anonymously?
You can use the app without a profile, but you will not have access to all features. For example, you can’t add favourites, log in on a new phone or view previously purchased tickets.
Why must I have a profile?
It is not compulsory to have a profile, but with a profile you get access to more features. For example, you can add favourites, log in on a new phone and view previously purchased tickets.
What happens if I change to a new phone without having a profile?
You will lose your tickets, ticket history and favourites.
How do I create a profile?
You create a profile under the ‘Profile’ tab, where you enter your name, phone number and email address. You can also choose whether you want two-factor authentication.
What information is stored about me?
Location, app activity and payment details.
What can I change in my profile?
You can change notifications, language, payment methods, favourites, walking speed (‘Your walking speed’) and transfer time.
Which languages can I choose?
You can choose Bokmål, Nynorsk or English.
What is ‘Your walking speed’?
This setting allows you to choose your walking speed. The walking speed is used, for example, to calculate how long it takes you to walk to the nearest stop.
Where can I find receipts for my journeys?
You can find them by selecting ‘My tickets’ under the ‘Profile’ tab.
Is it safe to pay in the app?
Yes, all payments are processed through secure and encrypted solutions.
Can I have my personal data deleted?
Yes, you can request deletion in accordance with data protection regulations.
How do I delete my profile?
Under the ‘Profile’ tab, tap ‘Your details’. You can delete your profile here.
Technical requirements, network coverage and troubleshooting
Which phone models and operating systems does the app support?
The app can be used on all smartphones and tablets running iOS 16.4 or Android 6.0 or later.
Do I need an internet connection to show my ticket?
Yes, it is not possible to display a ticket without network coverage.
Can the app be used on more than one phone at a time?
The app can be used on multiple phones at the same time, but you can only have your ticket on one device at a time.

Do I need to update the app manually?
This depends on the settings on your phone or tablet. If you have chosen automatic app updates, this will also apply to the new Skyss app.
What should I do if a purchase does not go through?
If you are unable to buy a ticket in the app, you must buy one on board or using another method. Here you will find an overview of the different ways to buy tickets for travelling with us.
Ticket inspection and security
How do ticket inspections work in areas with poor network coverage?
If you have the ticket open on your screen, it will be visible, but it is not possible to access the ticket inspection screen without an internet connection.
Will ticket inspectors and drivers recognise tickets in the new app?
Yes, all ticket inspectors, drivers and passenger ferry crews have received information and training on the new Skyss app.
Refunds
What are the rules for refunds and how do I apply for a refund?
If you have a ticket you are unable to use, or have funds remaining on your mobile account, you can apply for a refund. You do this by using this form.
I have already applied for a refund. What happens next?
We process all refund requests that we receive.
