The braking distance for an empty Bergen Light Rail carriage travelling at 30 km/h is around 15 metres at full braking force. At 50 km/h, the braking distance will be around 36 metres when applying the hazard brake. With passengers on board, the braking distance is even longer.

Information for pedestrians

  • Only cross the track at the designated places.
  • The pedestrian crossings are grey.
  • When the light is green, it is safe to cross the track.
  • If the light is not green, you always have a duty to give way to Bergen Light Rail – including at the designated pedestrian crossings.
  • All walking or loitering on the Bergen Light Rail track is prohibited. This is for your own safety.
  • Walking/loitering on the tracks may be reported to the police.
  • Walking/loitering in tunnels can lead to life-threatening situations. Bergen Light Rail runs at high speed there.

Information for cyclists

  • Only cross the tracks at the designated places.
  • All crossing points are coloured red.
  • The pedestrian crossings are grey.
  • When crossing the tracks: Cross the tracks at right angles, i.e. cross the tracks at an angle of as near to 90 degrees as possible. That will avoid you getting your wheel stuck in the tracks. Remember that the tracks are slippery.
  • All cycling on the Bergen Light Rail tracks is prohibited! It can be tempting to cycle along the Bergen Light Rail tracks, but the ban is for your own safety. Cycling on the tracks may be reported to the police.

Information for motorists

  • Comply with traffic lights when crossing the Bergen Light Rail tracks.
  • In places without traffic lights where the road crosses the tracks, or if the traffic lights are out of order, motorists always have a duty to give way to Bergen Light Rail regardless of which side, the right or left, it comes from.
  • Do not enter junctions/level crossings that are marked red until you are absolutely certain that you can exit the junction safely. Never stop in the red field in the road where the tracks cross the road.
  • All driving on the Bergen Light Rail tracks is prohibited. Driving and parking along the tracks will be reported to the police.
