PRICE AND DISCOUNT POLICY FOR HORDALAND. APPLIES TO BUS, LIGHTRAIL AND FERRY SERVICE BETWEEN KLEPPESTØ AND STRANDKAIEN (ASKØY FERRY).

Applies from 15 January 2021 until further notice.  

1. GENERAL 

This policy applies to bus and lightrail service in Hordaland, as well as to the Askøy ferry (boat service between Kleppestø and Strandkaien).  

The county’s routes are divided into zones, which are defined by the first and last stop in each zone. Fare calculations are based on the number of zones between where the passenger gets on and where the passenger gets off. Prices are specified in price tables, as updated.  

1.1. Travel documents 

Provided the passenger has boarded or embarked before the ticket expires, the passenger is considered to have travelled with a valid ticket.Passengers must be able to present valid travel documents at all times. This means you must have a valid ticket for the time period and zone(s) in question, as well as valid documentation if you are travelling with a discounted ticket (ID, student Id/concession card, etc.).  Discounts apply regardless of country of residence and nationality. 

Tickets may come in different formats, depending on where it was purchased: 

  • Skyss Ticket app: The ticket is available in the app. 
  • Online at skyss.no: Choose between Skyss Travel Card or digital ticket sent via e-mail/SMS.  
  • Ticket machine: Choose between Skyss Travel Card or single-use ticket.  
  • On board: Passengers are issued a paper ticket. 
  • Service Centre: Passengers are issued paper tickets for single fares and 24-hour tickets. If you are purchasing a season ticketseason ticket for a longer time period, you need the Skyss Travel Card. 

1.2. Fare partnerships 

Skyss has established fare partnerships with other transport operators.  

1.2.1. Rail travel  

The following Skyss tickets are valid for rail travel in Hordaland (Vossebanen) 

  • Single fare, 24-hour ticket and season ticket between Bergen and Arna/Trengereid 
  • Season ticket (7, 30 and 180 days) between Bergen and Voss 
  • 30-day youth ticket between Bergen and Vieren 

Vy has special discounts and policies for groups, companions and animals.  In addition, Vy applies their own fees for tickets bought on board. Go to vy.no for more information.  

1.2.2. Fjordekspressen 

Local rates for passengers between Bergen — Ostereidet — Matre — Haugsvær who have paid in advance, either in the app or online and/or ticket machines (receipt required). Applies to single fares, youth tickets and season ticketes (7, 30 and 180 days).  

No seat guarantees on board Fjordekspressen for passengers who did not buy a ticket from www.nor-way.no This applies both within Hordaland and cross-county journeys. Passengers travelling Bergen — Knarvik round trip cannot use Fjordekspressen. 

1.2.3. Haukeliekspressen 

Local rates for single fares for passengers between Odda — Røldal — Etne. Youth tickets may be used. Receipts required for tickets purchased online and/or from ticket machines. 

1.2.4. Øst-Vest-ekspressen 

Youth tickets may be used to/from the former county line between Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. For other types of passengers, the operator’s own rates apply. 

1.2.5. Kystbussen 

Youth tickets may be used to/from Haugesund. For other types of passengers, the operator’s own rates apply.  

2. TICKET PURCHASE 

2.1. Skyss Ticket app 

“Skyss Ticket” is a smartphone app for iPhone and Android, where passengers can purchase all types of tickets, both single fares and season tickets, for all of Hordaland, except journeys that involve a combination of bus/boat. Tickets purchased in the app need not be presented upon boarding, but passengers must be able to present valid travel documents in a ticket inspection. 

Methods of payment: debit card, Vipps, travel account 

2.1.1. Travel account — for smartphones 

The travel account is one method of payment available in the Skyss Ticket app. Deposits made to the travel account must be at least NOK 200, and the maximum balance permitted is NOK 5000. In order to use the travel account as a method of payment, the current balance must be at least equivalent to the purchase amount. Deposits to the travel account may be made in the following ways:

  • VISA or Mastercard.
  • Online bank transfer Send an SMS with the message “KID” to 2412 for more information. 

2.2. Online shop  

Passengers can buy all types of single fare tickets and travel passes for all of Hordaland in the online shop on skyss.no. If you are purchasing a travel pass, you need the Skyss Travel Card. If you are purchasing a single fare or a 24-hour ticket, you can choose to use either a Skyss Travel Card or a QR code. This QR code may be printed or sent via SMS or e-mail. Tickets purchased in the online shop need not be presented upon boarding, but passengers must be able to present valid travel documents in a ticket inspection.

2.2.1. Skyss Travel Card 

The Skyss Travel Card is a card that can be used for travel with public transport in Hordaland, and passengers can use it when they purchase season tickets online at skyss.no or from ticket machines. Passengers need not register the Skyss Travel Card upon boarding, but the Travel Card must be presented in a ticket inspection, along with valid documentation if you are travelling with a discounted ticket. 

2.3. Ticket machine  

At all Bergen Lightrail stops and select bus stops and terminals, ticket machines can be used to purchase all types of single fares and season tickets for all of Hordaland. If you are purchasing a season ticket, you need the Skyss Travel Card. If you are purchasing a single fare or a 24-hour ticket, you can choose to use either a Skyss Travel Card or to have the machine issue a paper ticket. Tickets purchased from a ticket machine need not be presented upon boarding, but passengers must be able to present valid travel documents in a ticket inspection. 
 
Methods of payment: Coins, debit card 

2.4. On board 

On board buses and the Askøy ferry, passengers may purchase single fare tickets and 24-hour tickets on board. A paper ticket is issued, and valid travel documents must be presented in an inspection. 
Methods of payment: Cash 

2.4.1. Additional fee for purchasing on board 

Within Zone A, there is an additional fee for onboard purchases of adult, child and concessionary tickets. Different fees are applied for train journeys. 

2.5. Customer Service Centre 

Single fare and 24-hour tickets may be purchased at the Skyss Customer Service Centre in the Bergen Bus Station. Paper tickets are issued. Tickets purchased from the Customer Service Centre need not be presented upon boarding, but passengers must be able to present valid travel documents in a ticket inspection.  

Methods of payment: Debit card, cash 
 
Customer Service Centre staff are also happy to help you purchase a season ticket in the app or from the online shop. 

3. TICKET TYPES 

3.1. Single fare  

Single fare tickets are valid for 90 minutes for one zone after purchase/activation, plus 30 minutes for each additional zone. 

3.1.1. Single fare — one journey 

A single fare ticket can be used to complete a single journey within one or more zones using bus/lightrail/the Askøy ferry. In addition, a single fare ticket can be used for the following: 

  • Rail (Vossebanen) in Zone A  
  • Fjordekspressen between Bergen — Ostereidet — Matre — Haugsvær, but not for local journeys between Bergen and Knarvik. Valid inside Hordaland and on cross-county journeys 
  • Haukeliekspressen between Odda — Røldal — Etne 

Single fare tickets are available for all passenger types.  

3.2. Season ticket 

Season tickets are non-personal and may be used by several persons, but they may only be used by one person at a time. The person using the season ticket must be able to present a ticket and documentation of age and other discount requirements. 

On journeys outside the zones for which a passenger holds a valid season ticket, single fare tickets must be purchased. You pay for the zones you do not already hold a ticket for.  

3.2.1. Season ticket — multiple journeys 

Season tickets are valid for 24 hours or 7, 30 or 180 days for an unlimited number of bus/lightrail/Askøy ferry journeys within the zones specified. In addition, 7-, 30- and 180-day season tickets may be used for the following: 

  • Rail (Vossebanen) between Bergen and Voss  
  • Fjordekspressen between Bergen — Ostereidet — Matre — Haugsvær, but not for local journeys between Bergen and Knarvik. Valid inside Hordaland and on cross-county journeys 

Season tickets are available for adults, children, students and concessionary card holders. 

3.2.2. Youth ticket — for passengers aged 16 to 20 

30-day youth tickets are available for passengers from age 16 to the end of the month when the passenger turns 21. Upper secondary school pupils who have not yet turned 16 may also purchase this ticket, but must carry documentation of their status as an upper secondary school pupil.  

30-day youth tickets are valid on the following modes of transport within the county:  

  • Local buses (Skyss and Kringom)  
  • City bus Førde and Florø 
  • Kringom airport bus (airport express bus not included in Bergen) 
  • Bergen Lightrail 
  • Skyss ferries  
  • Fjord1 and Norled ferries in Sogn og Fjordane  
  • Express buses  
  • Fjordekspressen between Bergen — Ostereidet — Matre — Haugsvær, but not for local journeys between Bergen and Knarvik. Valid inside Hordaland and on cross-county journeys 
  • Haukeliekspressen between Odda — Røldal — Etne 
  • Øst-Vest-ekspressen 
  • Kystbussen to/from Haugesund 
  • All Vy and NOR-WAY express buses in Sogn og Fjordane (not private tourist routes)  
  • Fram bus routes in Sogn og Fjordane 
  • Trains between Bergen and Vieren (“Vossebanen”) 
  • Kolumbus buses (including night buses) in the Municipalities of HaugesundKarmøyBoknTysvær and Vindafjord in Rogaland. 
  • Skyss “Trygt hjem” bus routes (Hordaland) 
When you use your Skyss Travelcard on vehicles that do not use a Skyss ticket system (local trains, express buses, ferries etc.), you must present a receipt for ticket activation (with 'valid to' date) during ticket inspections. 
 

4. DISCOUNTS 

4.1. Adult  

Any person aged 18 and over.  

4.2. Child  

Children aged 6 to 18 get a 50-percent discount on the adult ticket price for single fare tickets and season tickets. Children under age 6 travel for free. If there is any doubt about the passenger’s age, ticket inspectors may demand that the passenger present identification.  

The age limit applies to travel by bus, lightrail or the Askøy ferry. For journeys including boat travel, the age range for child tickets is 4–16. Children under age 4 travel for free on boats. 

4.3. Concessionary 

Passengers who qualify for a concessionary ticket get a 50-percent discount on the adult ticket price when they purchase single fare tickets and season tickets. The following passengers are eligible for a concessionary discount:  

  • Any person aged 67 or over  
  • Disabled persons, as defined in the National Insurance Act  
  • Blind persons  

Spouses/registered partners travelling with a person eligible for a concessionary discount, as outlined above, get a 50-percent discount on single fare tickets.  

Any person travelling with a concessionary ticket must carry valid identification, and the same applies to spouses/partners. Persons under age 67 who are on disability pension must also carry a certificate issued by national insurance. Blind persons must carry a certificate issued by the Norwegian Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted or similar association. Deaf-blind persons must carry an additional certificate.  

Eligibility for a concessionary discount for recipients of disability benefits includes both recipients of no less than 50 percent disability from the Norwegian National Insurance and EEA residents with a permanent statutory national insurance benefit based on no less than 50 percent disability from a public social security scheme in another EEA country, equivalent to the Norwegian National Insurance. 

EEA residents who receive social security benefits as described above from another EEA country, are eligible for a concessionary discount in line with persons with no less than 50 percent disability benefit from the Norwegian National Insurance. Concessionary cards issued by NAV are sufficient to qualify for a concessionary discount. 

4.4. Travel companion 

Travel companions of a disabled person, who carry a companion card, travel for free with a disabled person with a single fare ticket. A separate ticket for the travel companion is not required. 

Other rules apply to rail journeys. 

4.5. Student 

Students/apprentices/pupils under age 29 get a 40-percent discount on season tickets. The student discount is for full-time students or pupils in upper secondary school, vocational school, university, university college or other educational institution accredited by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund. This discount is also extended to Norwegian students abroad. Student discounts are also extended to full-time apprentices and trainees, provided the training complies with the provisions of Chapter 4 of the Education Act.  

4.6. Military 

Conscript soldiers (initial service) get a 50-percent discount on adult single fare tickets — though not below the full price for 2 zones.  

This discount is extended during the service period specified on the Ministry of Defence identity card (FD-ID). The FD-ID serves as identification. For call-up journeys, the call-up order may be used as documentation.  

The military discount is also extended to persons performing compulsory civilian national service. This discount is only extended to Norwegian nationals serving in the Norwegian Armed Forces or performing Norwegian civilian national service. 

4.7. Family  

Any adult aged 18 and over with a valid ticket (single fare or season ticket) may bring up to four children aged 6–18 for free on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Children under age 6 always travel for free. The family discount applies to all adults (including military, student and concessionary tickets). 

4.8. Group 

Adult passengers get a 17-percent discount when 10 or more passengers travel together with a single fare ticket. Children, concessionary card holders and military do not get a specific discount, but do count as passengers in the group. Children under age 6 travel for free and are not included as passengers in the group. 

Group discounts cannot be combined with other discounted tickets.

4.9. Combination journeys 

When you purchase a travel pass for a combination of bus and boat transport, you are extended a discount based on travel distance when you purchase the travel pass from the online shop at skyss.no. 

This discount is not available in the Skyss Ticket app. 

5. BAGGAGE, ETC.  

5.1. Pushchairs, wheelchairs and skis 

Pushchairs, wheelchairs and skis can be brought on board for free, if space allows.  

5.2. Animals 

Animals travel for free. Other rules apply to rail journeys. 

5.3. Bikes 

Bikes can be brought on board if space allows. A discount of 50 percent on the adult ticket price is extended for bikes. See the relevant price table for maximum price. Folding bikes count as hand luggage. 

Bikes can be brought on board the Askøy ferry for free, if space allows.  

6. REFUNDS 

Single fare tickets and 24-hour tickets are non-refundable. 7-, 30- and 180-day season tickets are refundable. Contact the Skyss Customer Service Centre for settlement and transfer of the remaining value to your bank account.    

7. SKYSS SCHOOL TRAVEL CARD 

The school travel card may only be used for two journeys per school day between home and school, and the card may only be used by the person to whom it is issued. School travel cards for primary and lower secondary school travel are valid from 05:00 to 19:00, whereas upper secondary school travel cards are valid to 23:00. The card is valid for 10 months and cannot be used on Saturdays, Sundays and during school holidays.  

Pupils who lose their school travel card must pay for ticket costs until they have received a new card. Schools manage school travel cards, so pupils must contact their school to be issued a new card. The rules for school transport are specified in the school transport regulations. Pupils who use Skyss school travel cards must present valid identification in a ticket inspection.
