What is Skyss?

Skyss is a unified competence body for mobility and public transportation in the county, and we work to achieve the political objectives for public transportation and mobility services defined by Vestland County Council. Day to day, our work includes:

planning and developing line networks and schedules
awarding contracts for the operation of bus, express boat and ferry services through competitive tendering
school transport planning and coordination
providing information about and marketing travel options and customer solutions
providing customer service
developing combined mobility services

Skyss merged with Kringom when Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane became Vestland County Council on 1 January 2020.

Steering documents

Regional transportplan (RTP) for Vestland 2022-2033 («The Regional Transport Plan») was adopted by Vestland County Council in December 2021. The plan aims for Vestland to have an efficient, safe and future-oriented transport system that facilitates climate- and environment-friendly mobility and sustainable societal development.

Strategi for berekraftig mobilitet i Vestland 2022-2033 («Strategy for sustainable mobility») is part of RTP. The strategy shall support the overall goals for Vestland County Council and ensure a sustainable development for the region. The strategy shows how Skyss is going to achieve the goal of developing a well-functioning and sustainable mobility system for citizens and society.

Governance

Skyss’ highest executive body is the Vestland County Council, which adopts overall strategies and budgets and decides in individual cases when the subject matter concerns policy or the budget.
