The new card readers are located by the rear entrance doors on the buses, the Light Rail Service in Bergen and by the front entrance doors in certain buses. You can use your travelcard with Periodic Travel, Youth Travel or a school travelcard in the new self-service card readers. Hold the card steady by the bottom part of the card reader. Cash Travel on your Skyss travelcard and paper tickets must be presented to the driver.
What can the new card readers do?
- Register your journey (Youth Travel, Periodic Travel or school travelcard)
- Activate Youth Travel or Periodic Travel *
- Check the content of your travelcard (“Display card content”)
* NB! Self-service card readers do not issue activation receipts.
You can purchase Periodic Travel and Youth Travel then activate the product later. The activation receipt is your valid receipt when travelling by bus with a different ticket system or other means of transport (e.g. Norwegian state railway, ferry, express bus).
For example, you can renew Periodic Travel before it expires or you can purchase Youth Travel on a Friday and activate on a Monday. If you need a receipt for product activation, you have to ask the bus driver to activate the travel product. You can also ask for a copy of the receipt from the driver afterwards if you have already activated Periodic Travel or Youth Travel using a self-service card reader.
