How to use the Skyss Travelcard?

How to use the Skyss travelcard

Hold the travelcard close to the card reader (validator) to be read. All buses have a card reader by the front entrance and many also have card readers at the rear entrance. A green light on the card reader means that you have a valid travel product. If the card reader shows a red light, please contact the bus driver. If the card reader on the Bergen Light Rail shows a red light, try one of the other card readers onboard or contact our customer service centre to find out if you have a valid travel product.

If you are using Cash Travel, you must approach the driver and tell him/her where you want to travel, or use a ticket machine.

Periodic Travel

Periodic Travel has to be activated the first time you use it. You can ask the bus driver to help you with activation or you can do it yourself using the self-service card readers, as follows: Hold your travelcard steady in front of the
reader, choose the travel product you want to activate (you can use both the button on the right or the left) and hold the Travelcard back up in front of the card reader. For the rest of the period, you register each journey by holding the Travelcard up in front of the card reader.

Youth Travel

Youth Travel has to be activated the first time you use it. You can ask the bus driver to help you with activation or you can do it yourself using the self-service card readers, as follows: Hold your Travelcard steady in front
of the reader, choose the travel product you want to activate (you can use both the button on the right or the
left) and hold the travelcard back up in front of the card reader. For the rest of the period, you register each
journey by holding the Travelcard up in front of the card reader.

NB: Remember to keep your activation receipt for journeys on local trains, ferries and express bus services.

Individual Travel

If you have purchased Individual Travel from a ticket machine, you have to register by holding your Travelcard
or Skyss mini-card steady in front of the card reader. If you buy Individual Travel from the bus driver, it will be
registered on your Travelcard. If you do not have a Travelcard, you will receive a paper ticket. Always state
your destination when buying Individual Travel.

FlexiTravel

You have to activate FlexiTravel for each journey. Using the self-service card readers: Hold the
Travelcard steady in front of the card reader, choose FlexiTravel and hold the card in front of the card reader
one more time. The card reader will show you how many journeys you have left with your FlexiTravel.
Driver assistance: Hold the Travelcard steady in front of the card reader, the driver will activate FlexiTravel.

Cash Travel

Use of Cash Travel on buses: Customers with Cash Travel are not able to use the self-service card reader
on the bus. Tell the driver that you have Cash Travel and your destination. Then hold your Travelcard steady in
front of the card reader to pay for the trip. The price of the trip will be deducted from your Cash Travel account.
Use of Cash Travel on the Bergen Light Rail: For trips on the Bergen Light Rail, you can use the ticket machine as follows: Hold your Travelcard steady in front of the card reader, choose “Individual Travel”, “Trip within Bergen Zone” and the correct category (adult, child etc.) if you have an anonymous Travelcard. Once you have made your choices, hold your Travelcard steady in front of the card reader to pay for the trip. The price of the trip will be deducted from your Cash Travel account. When you board the Bergen Light Rail service, you register the trip using one of the self-service card readers.
